“This image is taken from the series Tenha Orgulho, which translates as ‘Take Pride’. For four years, the photographer traveled across Brazil, photographing the lives of her queer friends under the extremism of Bolsonaro. The portraits are intertwined with images of Brazil’s dramatic landscapes and flora, suggesting an interconnection between the oppression of sexuality and the exploitation of nature—such as the deforestation of the Amazon rainforest and broader environmental destruction—as forms of violence rooted in the same patriarchal system.”
